Tips For Effective Direct-Mailing Campaigns

Blog

If you are planning a direct-mailing advertising campaign, you are likely spending a ton of money on getting your materials into people's mailboxes. You want to make sure that you are getting the best value for the money that you are spending as possible. As a result, you are going to want to optimize your direct-mailing strategy. Here are some tips for doing so.

1. Create a Customer Profile

Your first step is to create a profile of the people that you want to reach out to. This profile should be as detailed as possible. For example, you might think that the person who is most likely the buy your product or the demographic that you want to target most is males who are between the ages of twenty-five and forty-five, college-educated, and don't have children. By having this level of detail in your customer profile, you will be able to avoid sending mail to customers who are not interested in your product at all and therefore wasting money.

Once you have this customer profile, develop a mailing list that is composed almost entirely of people who fit this profile. You may need to work with a company that specializes in creating mailing lists.

2. Create a Mailing That Appeals to Your Target Customer

Next, make sure that you are creating a mailing that is going to actually appeal to your target customer. If you are going to try to target the demographic discussed above, you might want to avoid using a ton of flowers, which tend to appeal to women, or simplistic language, which might be off-putting to those who have a college degree. Try to frame your product in such a fashion that it will appeal to your target customer specifically. If your target customer feels as though your mailing has perfectly described a problem that they have on a regular basis and your product is a solution to that problem, they will be more likely to actually make a purchase.

3. Follow Up

Finally, you should have a smaller list of people pulled from the main list that are most likely to actually pull the trigger and buy your product. Follow up with them by sending them another mailing a week or two later to remind them to try your product.

For more information, talk to a company that specializes in direct mailing marketing campaigns, such as Early Express Services Inc. They will be able to help you create a customer profile, get a mailing list, and create effective mailings.
